Dunum is a small farming village and is located away from the main roads. Nevertheless, you can reach the coast and the North Sea spa town of Bensersiel by car in about ten minutes. The districts and farms in Dunum are spread over a large area. We offer you an unforgettable vacation with bossel games, barbecue evenings, folk theater, carriage rides, and joint cycling and hiking tours.
Dunum is also in an excellent transport location for the many excursion destinations in East Frisia. The coast and the tourist and spa facilities, for example, in the North Sea spa town of Bensersiel and the North Sea spa town of Neuharlingersiel or in the old knight and bear town of Esens, are not far away. Around Dunum you will find the original East Frisian hedge landscape, extensive wetlands with a beautiful and interesting plant and animal life as well as a large forest with a rich game stock. You will be amazed at how often you can cycle along the byways and cycle paths and observe numerous wild animals on the meadows and fields at dusk.
According to the old legend, the tomb of the Frisian king Radbod is located under Dunum's "Radbodsberg". He was the only chieftain to unite all Frisian peoples and to win a historical victory against the Norsemen. Our old brick church from the 13th century is also a special attraction.
The East Frisia hiking trail leads directly past our farm through Dunum and offers you the healthiest connection to the North Sea by bicycle to the coastal and North Sea spas or to the dike. Our location is excellently suited for walks, bike tours, and discovery trips of all kinds into the unique and diverse nature of East Frisia. On the way to the beach in nearby Bensersiel, you pass through the old knight town of Esens north of Dunum. There are, for example, indoor play park "Klabautermann" for children and a rich offer of gastronomic, shopping and recreational opportunities for adults.
The North Sea spa town of Bensersiel has a lot to offer for sports, relaxation, and play, for example, the harbor to the island of Langeoog, the beach, the beach portal with covered play beach "Bennis Abenteuerland", swimming pools, tennis courts, surf sections on the dike, fitness offers, beach volleyball, fishing opportunities and much more.
Speaking of swimming pools: Do not miss a visit to the seawater outdoor pool with a giant slide and the bathing landscape "Nordseetherme Bensersiel", a modern heated fun and leisure pool for the whole family and with a large panoramic indoor slide. The therapy center (e.g. with all spa facilities) and a modern wellness, sauna and fitness center are also located there.
The North Sea spa town of Neuharlingersiel is also very close by. Neuharlingersiel is a 300-year-old fishing village with an active crab cutter fleet. You should also wander into the friendly and cozy towns of East Frisia, for example, it is not far to Aurich, Jever or Leer. A special and rich art delicacy is the Nannen Museum of the "Stern" founder Henri Nannen in Emden.
Further worthwhile destinations are the many mills, museums, exhibitions, and other cultural highlights or the diverse fauna of the geologically unique combination of marsh, Geest, and moor in East Frisia.
